Ophthalmological check-up
Glaucoma is a silent eye disease that can lead to irreversible vision loss if not detected in time. It is caused by an increase in intraocular pressure, which gradually damages the optic nerve.
The best prevention relies on regular screenings, especially after the age of 40 or in the presence of risk factors (family history, significant myopia, diabetes). An ophthalmic examination allows for the measurement of eye pressure and the assessment of the optic nerve’s condition.
Proper follow-up care and, if necessary, early treatment help preserve vision and slow the progression of the disease.
This evaluation is carried out in addition to a general medical check-up.
- Medical history: The doctor asks about symptoms, past illnesses, and family history of eye diseases.
- Vision test (visual examination) – Checking visual acuity.
- Examination of the anterior parts of the eye.
- Measurement of intraocular pressure (tonometry) – Important for the early detection of glaucoma.
- Fundus examination if indicated.
